COMMENTARY FOR CHART NAMED GOO TOP 100 - JANUARY 14, 2003
DAVE GROHL & FOO FIGHTERS FINALLY EARN A CNG #1
The Foo Fighters have been one of those artists that have been knocking on the door for number one success on the Chart Named Goo chart for a long time now. On this day, they finally opened that day. The Foos were close to #1 in the winter of 2000 when they went to #3 with their believe-in-yourself-anthem, "Learn To Fly." Later, in summer 2000, they just missed the top ten with their Me, Myself & Irene soundtrack cut, "Breakout." They have had moderate success with "Next Year" and "The One." As recent as October 2002, Dave Grohl (lead singer of Foo Fighters) reached #4 with "You Know You're Right" playing drums for the legendary Nirvana rock band.
Foo Fighters rise to #1 was anything but slow. They have the hot shot debut on December 7 at #41, jumped 20 spots the next week, had a decent 8 spot jump the next week and entered the top ten two weeks ago. "All My Life" is more harder-edge than most of the former Foo Fighters songs and it may turn out to be their biggest mainstream success. The song has been dominating modern rock radio and it's still not to late for top 40 radio to catch on.
INTERNATIONAL ACTS T.A.T.U., ROBBIE WILLIAMS & SUGABABES MAKING BIG IMPACT
Let's start with T.A.T.U.! How original is this? You take a teenage lesbian couple that happens to be from Russia (which has been as dry as the Sahara Desert in the American music market) and put a lot of marketing power to be one of the first breakout hits of 2003. T.A.T.U. reminds me of M2M, but at a faster pace. So will this Russian duo have success in America? I predict possibily a top 20 peak on the Billboard Hot 100 but only if they manage to get more airplay. "All The Things She Said" is rising on the Chart Named Goo Top 100 and is at #16 this week. "All The Things She Said" is looking to knock on the door of top ten stardom in the coming weeks.

Robbie Williams has been one of the most successful international artists on Chart Named Goo. With a number one hit, "Rock DJ," and two more top ten singles ("Millennium" and "Angels"), Robbie Williams has never had a song peak lower than the top ten on the chart. Will "Feel" be the exception or will "Feel" rise to the occasion to keep his top ten hits streak alive? We'll find out in the coming weeks.

Sugababes, who were hailed supposedly as the "new Spice Girls" in the Great Britian back in 2000, attempt to score a second success with their newest ballad, "Stronger." "Stronger" has a nice flow which will help them rise up the chart.
