Limp Bizkit, Britney Spears Makes Comebacks After Long Hiatuses
Fred Durst (lead singer of Limp Bizkit) and Britney Spears made tabloid headlines together in early 2003 with their quickie relationship which caused Durst to lash out to the world of Spears' pitfalls in the magazines and radio. Of course, Spears is the poster child for "let's just get done" romance. Whether intentional or accidental, a wild party in Las Vegas lead to a marriage which immediately got annulled the next day. I think it can be agreed that Spears get more attention for her escapades than her actual music. To me, Limp Bizkit looked dead around this time last year. After Limp Bizkit's guitarist Wes Borland, whose musical talents led many to the band, left the band in late 2001, Durst led a nationwide search to find a new guitarist among the masses. This search led to multiple rumors of when the now-titled Results May Vary album will come out. To my memory, the album came out at least six months of when online music news authorities say it will come out. The first single from Results May Vary was "Eat You Alive" (#15), which peaked high early in its chart run but quickly faded off the countdown. A couple months later, I heard the next single, "Behind Blue Eyes", and I was quickly impressed with it. The Who recorded this song in 1971 which charted at #34 on the Hot 100. This is the song that I felt Limp Bizkit had the potential to do but never have done before: a accoustic, stripped-down and emotional power ballad. Much of the online reaction to this song is questioning why the 80s' toy "Speak-N-Spell" makes a left-field sample in the song. Some fan reviews felt this was too gimmicky to be included in the song, especially since it's a ballad. My thoughts on the inclusion of the "Speak-N-Spell" cameo is that it's a interesting transition to the song but it's something that's not neccessary because the song would work without it. One part of the "Speak-N-Spell" break that makes me laugh is when the robot voice is saying L-I-M-P, I listen to the final three letters and it's sounds like "I Am Pee." What's the significance of "Behind Blue Eyes" hitting #1? First off, it's Limp Bizkit's first number one song ever on the chart. They have been close multiple times with 6 top five hits previous to "Behind Blue Eyes". The top five hits of Limp Bizkit are: "Faith" (#3), "Nookie" (#3), "Rearranged (#2), "Rollin'" (#5), "My Way" (#2), "Boiler" (#4) and now "Behind Blue Eyes" (#1). Also, Limp Bizkit officially has the record for longest wait to hit #1 in a chart career: 5 years and almo |
