Delta Goodrem jumps 6-1 with the double-sided hit "Born To Try/Lost Without You," ending the two-week reign of Foo Fighters' "Times Like These." Delta Goodrem is the third Australian artist to hit #1 (Savage Garden & Kylie Minogue are the other) and she's the first Australian artist to hit #1 without the help of American exposure. Also, "Born To Try/Lost Without You" is the first double-sided song to hit #1 ever. What's the significance of this factoid? Well, it means that both songs are #1 at the same time but it still counts as one hit. Why did I put these two songs together? I have a good answer for that question. Since I discovered both songs at the same time and they are lyrically alike (both about recovering after a break-up), it seems like a natural to put them together. I may be the only one to do this but I love both songs equally as much and it's definetly tough to pick which one is better. I find her Australian soap, Neighbors, connection a little strange. The show seems to be a breeding ground for female Australian pop stars as Kylie Minogue and Holly Valance were on the show before they came famous. I'm obviously not an Aussie so I don't understand that connection but I'm very interested in finding out more about this show. Maybe the next Australian sensation will come from that show! Anyway, Delta Goodrem has definetly broken through on this chart and in very short time indeed. Hopefully, she can breakthrough into the US with one of these songs. I'm not sure about her chances for an American breakthrough because the U.S. market has been much more difficult to predict for imported songs.
Audioslave's "Like A Stone" is making a minor turnaround as the song turns up at #2 this week. This is definetly one of the best rock ballads of the year and it's starting to get major attention at national airplay and personal charts around the web. "Times Like These" drops two spots from #1 to #3 and "When I'm Gone" drops two spots from #2 to #4 this week. Silverchair enters the top five with "Across The Night" and has an awesome chance to become the 4th Australian song to hit #1. "The Road I'm On" enters the top ten at #8 and gives 3 Doors Down two top-ten hits this week. Also, Modern rock group, Cold, enters the top ten with "Stupid Girl" at #100
.
Only two songs enter the top 40 this week: Coldplay's "The Scientist" and Sugar Ray's "Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)." The latter makes a huge 51-spot jump after it made an even bigger 73-spot jump last week. Sugar Ray is attempting to get their 5th number one song with "Mr. Bartender" to tie the record for most number one hits with *N Sync, Blink 182 and Britney Spears.
The greatest gainer award goes to Live's "Heaven" which jumped 61 spots from #159 to #98. Junior Senior is right behind them as they jumped 60 spots from #143 to #83 this week. Mariah Carey & Busta Rhymes' "I Know What You Want" was on the brink of fall-off territory last week but it made a huge rebound this week as it jumps 57 spots from #195 to #138. It's the not the songs that are rising as the big story but it's the songs that are falling. There's so many big falls this week and some of the songs were even "risers" last week. When a song loses momentum, the songs falls down hard on this shot.
50 Cent's "In Da Club" is the only significant falloff this week while the rest failed to make any big impact on the chart. Of course, "In Da Club" is one of the biggest hits on the year but it was only a medium-sized hit at Chart Named Goo. It did manage a couple weeks in the top 40 and a peak at #27 but as you may notice with this chart, it's hard to favor a song that overplayed dramatically by the second or the third week it's out. It's still a decent run for 50 Cent and I'm sure 50 Cent will get success in other places so I'm not losing any sleep because the song didn't make the top ten. |

Boomkat - - What U Do 2 Me
|
|
Brother & sister duo Kelin & Taryn Manning are back with their 2nd single off Boomkatalong One, "What U Do 2 Me." They are attempting to repeat of the success of their breakout single, "The Wreckoning" (PEAK: #7). They are definetly off to a good start this week as they earn the hot shot debut honors this week. By the way, this song references TLC and R. Kelly in a couple lines in the lyrics.

The Transplants - - Diamonds & Guns
|
| I had this song on my computer ever since January. It's astonishing that I overlooked this song to be on the countdown when the song was just comng out. After hearing the sheer brillance of the piano riff of this song, I was hooked. It's interesting that this song has made its way over to a Clariol (I think!) haircare commercial. |

Union Turnpike - - Oh!
|
| Union Turnpike is a rap trio from Queens, NY. Their clear musical influence is Run D.M.C. and one of the rappers sounds like Pharrel. "Oh!" definetly has the old school rap flavor and it's nice break from the relationship-type hip-hop songs that's out there right now on the airwaves. This song has good potential to become a decent hit. |

Plummet - - Damaged
|
| "Damaged" is an awesome trance track . I have no idea where Plummet came from or who's in the group but they have one of the best trance tracks of this year. I already have two remixes of the song (Cage Remix & Club Mix) and both of them are killer. If trance is not your thing, then this song is probably not for you but if you're a trance fan, this is definetly a song you want to check out. This song has a good chance of cracking the top-40 and could even go higher. |

Red Hot Chili Peppers - - Dosed
|
| "Dosed" is the sixth song to hit the chart from the very successful Red Hot Chili Peppers album, By The Way. "Dosed" is going to be the fourth single for America and "Universally Speaking" (currently on the chart) is going to be the fourth single for the United Kingdom. "Dosed," in particular, has good #1 potential if it can keep the momentum of the previous RHCP singles from By The Way. Red Hot Chili Peppers always manages to deliver great singles and "Dosed" will be no exception. |

Sarah Whatmore - - When I Lost You
|
| Sarah Whatmore is an artist that I saw on the Australian charts so I decided to check her out for the first time. Whatmore has a good sultry voice and it blends in well into the mild electronica beats of the song. Especially in this song, Sarah Whatmore sounds a lot like Dannii Minogue. |

Newsboys - - He Reigns
|
| "He Reigns" from the very awesome Christian rock band, Newsboys, makes chart history. It's the first "praise" song to ever hit the chart! I'm very excited about the possibilities of this song. If you haven't discovered the Newboys, you need to. They have awesome instrumentation, cool pop hooks, and they have meaningful lyrics that will inspire your life. |

a-ha - - The Sun Always Shines On TV (Live)
|
| Many of you are only famaliar with the Norwegian pop group, a-ha, from their U.S. #1 hit, "Take On Me." "The Sun Always Shines On TV" is actually the follow-up to that song and it charted at #20 in the U.S. (don't call them ONE HIT WONDERS!) and was a U.K. #1 hit. The song is just as great as "Take On Me" and this live version on "Sun Always Shines..." from their most recent overseas album release in the first single. |

Josh Groban - - You're Still You |
| I've heard of Josh Groban by name but never heard of him by voice until this week. Groban has become a staple at AC radio for the past year. "You're Still You" is a beautiful emotional song about loving your significant other despite the troubles that may come your way. I'm impressed that Groban's voice is opera-like! It's definetly a one-of-a-kind voice for sure. |

Alkaline Trio - - We've Had Enough |
| Alkaline Trio is a punk-styled rock group. Expect this song to be making a push to a top-100 impact...it may take a while though! |

Tim McGraw - - She's My Kind Of Rain |
| "She's My Kind Of Rain" is currently topping the country airplay charts. Tim McGraw always delivers the goods...that's all that needs to be said about this song. |

Good Charlotte - - The Young & The Hopeless |
| If you're confused about Good Charlotte, you're not alone. First off, "Lifestyles Of The Rich & Famous," was the first single for both the UK and the US. The UK was much later on "Lifestyles" and it released "Girls & Boys" (currently: #20) as its second single with "The Anthem" (currently #11) to follow-up as the third single in the late summer. As you may already know, "The Anthem" was the second U.S. single released early this year and now "The Young & The Hopeless" is the third single to be released in America. I hope that clears the confusion! As for now, "Young & Hopeless" debuts very low but it's just because "Girls & Boys" is way overshadowing this song a lot right now. Fear not, GC fans, "Young & Hopeless" will pick up momentum and be a decent hit on this chart evenutally |
