"Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)," by Sugar Ray, gives the band its fifth number one in the short history of Chart Named Goo. That puts Sugar Ray into a tie with Blink 182, Britney Spears & *N Sync for most number ones on the chart. However, the sound of "Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)," is more reminiscent of their 1997 hit, "Fly," than their former CNG #1 hits. "Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)," also marks the return of the group after a two-year hiatus. Even more incredible about the fact that Sugar Ray has 5 number ones, is that Sugar Ray has only had 6 song charted. That's a 83% success rate to hit number one which is by the biggest for any group that has had more than five songs chart. Sugar Ray also owns the Hot Shot Debut this week as their follow-up to "Mr. Bartender," "Is She Really Going Out With Him?" debuts at #111.
Audioslave's "Like A Stone" stays strong as the single has its 14 consecutive weeks in the top ten and has its 4th chart week at #2. "Like A Stone," which could be a contender for the year-end #1 spot, is having an incredible run in the top ten and it could be one of the biggest top ten songs in the history of the chart when their chart run is finished. Just consider the fact that this song went to #1 three months ago and sits at the #2 spot this week. Trapt's first #1 single "Headstrong" falls back two spots from #1 this week. Another band that's making a huge breakthrough on the chart is AFI, which sees its first chart single, "Girl's Not Grey," make a 10-4 jump. To finish off the top five, there's Michelle Branch with her breakup song, "Are You Happy Now?" 3 Doors Down's "When I'm Gone" and Delta Goodrem's "Born To Try/Lost Without You" are at #6 and #7 respectifully while Good Charlotte's "Girls & Boys" and Girls Aloud's "No Good Advice" stays at #8 and #9 this week. The newest entry to the top ten is Linkin Park's "Faint," which gives Linkin Park its 7th top ten single. Their previous singles to reach the top ten are: "One Step Closer" (#4), "In The End" (#2), Mike Shinoda and Mr. Hahn's "It's Goin' Down" (#3), "Papercut" (#10), "Pts.Of.Athrty" (#4) and "Somewhere I Belong (#2).
Jane's Addiction is back and it's been a long wait. Their current single, "Just Because," is this week's Greatest Gainer, and it makes a 195-101 jump in its 2nd chart week. Metallica has a 108-47 jump with "St. Anger." "Calling All Angels," Train's newest offering," jumps 196-108 while Laura Pausini's second single, "If That's Love," finally makes its big chart breakthrough as the song jumps 172-112 this week. Also, Disturbed managed to turn around the fortunes of "Remember" this week and the song makes a surprising 166-113 jump.
There is two new songs to be added to the Kajagoogoo list this week: "All My Life" (Foo Fighters) and "Stronger" (Sugababes). "All My Life" was a #1 single earlier this year and it put the Foo Fighters into being one of the pivotal rock groups of this year as their follow-up, "Times Like These" went to #1 also. "All My Life" should be adding more weeks to its chart run and it could be a 40-week song with a chance at the 50-week mark. "All My Life" still sounds as fresh as the day I heard it for the first time. "Stronger" reached #9 and gave its Sugababes its 2nd top ten single at the time. Sugababes is one of the breakout pop groups of this year which has managed to land four singles in the top 15 in a 7-month period. So far, "Stronger" has had the strongest chart run of those four singles. Also as "Stronger" reaches Kajagoogoo status on the chart (30 weeks), it becomes the first song that has reached the 30-week mark that has not recieved exposure in the United States. "Stronger" will be falling off the chart next week and it should expect to debut high on the new Recurrents chart.
So, there's a new chart this week. The chart has been expanding throughout the year and now it's finally practical to have a Recurrents chart. Every week, there's been a growing list of songs that has outlasted its chart run but are still going strong. For this reason and more, Chart Named Goo is starting a Recurrents chart which is going to be counting down the awesome songs that we were listening to a couple months ago. As songs fall off the chart, especially those with huge week tallies, they will be taken automatically to the Recurrents chart where they will be going against songs in a whole different chart environment. It will take a couple weeks for this chart to be truly established but there will definetly be songs that will be falling off the main chart to come unto the Recurrents. Avril Lavigne's "I'm With You" is the first ever Recurrents #1.
The Retro Goo section is finally being started this week. For those of you who didn't read the Preview page, Retro Goo is paying justice to the songs of the 80s and the 90s that didn't have the opportunity to chart on Chart Named Goo because the chart didn't exist. Every week is represented from Jan. 5, 1980 to Jan. 12, 1999 (which is the week before the first Chart Named Goo chart). The number ones are being posted this week and the number two songs will be posted next week. More features of the section will be coming week by week and eventually the top ten charts will be posted. Just to clarify, Retro Goo isn't actually a real chart that was done during that time but a side project that was done this year to retroactively chart the past. I'm also considering doing Classic Goo, which will be 60s and 70s songs. I hope that you dig the concept and be sure to check out the songs that you see. There will be some songs that will be famaliar and there might be songs you haven't heard of before. Let me be the first to tell you that there was many revisions to the charts after I first originally did them to make sure the #1 songs were truly be represented as the best songs, in my opinion, of the 80s and 90s. Enjoy and there's more to come! |

|
After listening the latest Sugar Ray cut, you may say to yourself, "Man, that's sound famaliar!" The song was originally done by Joe Jackson. His version charted in 1979 and it peaked at #21 in 15 chart weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. This is Sugar Ray's follow-up single to the current #1 hit, "Mr. Bartender (It's So Easy)."

Godsmack - - Serenity
|
| After returning to the mainstream rock scene with "Straight Out Of Line," Godsmack tones it down with a song that could bring out the waving lighters at their concerts. "Serenity" is a ballad and it's definetly a different flavor of Godsmack. |
